Fallin’, Fallin’

Now I know that in some parts of the U.S. the weather is still quite warm while in others snow has already fallen but here in the Northeast, Fall has officially arrived. There is a delicious chill in the air and rosy cheeks abound. I love this season with its colorful leaves and log burning fires (not that I have said fires in my little abode but I love walking the streets, sniffing out the buildings that do and then banging on the front doors of those dwellings with a bag of marshmallows and a smile that says, “Invite me in”.). And while I’m sure there are plenty of celebri – sorry famous people who are famous for doing nothing – that pray not to be in anything that shoots in NY this time of year so that they don’t have to don anything but their mini-mini’s and remain true to their “let’s all go commando” style, I simply live to throw on my jeans, cords, clogs and vests. I especially love this season because I get to wear my favorite “Grandma-esque” sweater.
I’m not even sure where I got the thing but I dig it. It’s not fashionable. You wouldn’t see me in this and think, “Oh that’s what I need in my life.” But when I put this on…well, let’s just say it’s the closest I get to that feeling when I am warm and snug under my comforter. And we all know I’m a woman who would wear my PJ’s around everywhere were it socially acceptable. To me, this sweater is happiness. It makes me think of hot cocoa, Central Park, earmuffs, close friends, and hot toddies (is that how you spell that?).
What’s that one thing you just can’t live without in Fall? What’s that one piece of clothing you wait each year to throw on; that one snugly piece of happiness?

SCARVES!!! Love to knit them. Love to wear them. Have scarves from at least five countries (currently around my neck=scarf from India brought back by a friend. It’s brown with a strip of orangey colors & is like the cloth equivalent of fall foliage). I just love that feeling of warmth wrapped around my neck. It’s my adult, socially acceptable version of carrying around a blankie.
oh….the red fleece that I love so that Mark desperately wants me to throw out!!!
It’s just the perfect size and thickness and softness and I somehow find that red goes with more than I had originally thought when I wear it!
I to have a “Grandma-esque” sweater. It’s all the colors of fall and then some! OHHH and a lovely comforter that you can drag around the house so you can be snuggly cozy warm!
xo
Mine is a sweater, too. It’s an old Irish knit sweater that I THINK was a gift from a woman I lived with in France. It had those big buttons that are really just balls of cotton covered with more wool. It has a collar that stretches out to my shoulders, not in a cute cowl-ish way, but more in a Peter Pan gone wrong kind of way. Did I mention it is hideous? Let’s put it this way, my sweater is so bad, that my mother recently stole it, took it to her house, knitted all the holes and had it dry cleaned. I think it was the giant hole in the armpit that really got her goad. OH and my husband keeps trying to tell me that I can’t wear my slippers outside the home if I plan on putting them up on the couch. It’s hard.
May I add that this photo of you looks to have been taken mere moments before an uncontrollable, probably inappropriate giggle-fit?
Caroline – I was seriously thinking the other day I have like 2 scarves and would love more..the one you have on now sounds heavenly and I LOVE the association with fall foliage….ok the blankie comment made me HOWL! I love that …that’s how I am with my PJ’s ..I still think they should be acceptable attire for all occasions…what’s your favorite scarf out of the ones you have??
Bridge – I want to see the sweater…all the colors make it sound fanastic…and do you carry said comforter around..have you ever wanted to take it with you when you were going to say a meeting or cocktail party??
Patricia – ok I am a HUGE fan of red so this fleece sounds right up my alley and what is it about old clothes – they get that perfect softness that you never want to lose and suddenly everyone thinks you should throw it away….NO like fine wine some clothes age to that perfect soft fashion no?? I had jeans like that and then the softness led to thinness and eventually a hole in the knee BOO…I want to put a patch on it I love them sooo LOL
ISBN – OK so I laughed so hard at Peter Pan gone wrong and I SOO know this sweater and it is magnificent…Bless your Mom for nursing back to health… holes in armpits of fav things rarely bother me…is that wrong?? …they bother others way more…holes in socks bother me unless they are a fav pair and then I tend to keep them till they make me so nuts I rip them off in the middle of the street like a madwoman and toss them…..and the slippers..if you are only outside for say 5 seconds…isn’t that like the 5 second rule with food so really they are clean and ok for the couch…no? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
ISBN – you know me well, OB1….it was a fit of giggles fit for a Queen…a complete tear filled meltdown…..LOVED it….I love that you get and appreciate my insanity..
warm and cozy pj’s!! I just love them:)
Trish I am SOOO with you….oh nothing at all like comfy PJ’s how are you??? It’s been ages!
So good to hear from you!!Glad your back and feeling better too, at least it sounds like you are?!
The moleskine, I just got bored with the cover and decided to collage on it:) I’ve been playing in the art journal, started an altered book/journal also (I have about 3 journals going), practicing watercolors (although I haven’t for a few weeks-I get consumed by one thing at a time, it all goes around in a circle:) and today just started a new canvas. I’m trying to loosen up and enjoy the process without worrying about the end result.
So, what all have you been up to? (did you say you were working in your journal?)
I look forward to hearing from you!
take care
xoxo
