Welcome everyone!
The Thursday Sweet Treat was a blog that I started to help keep creatives of all kinds motivated to create. When you run your own business or blog, it can sometimes be hard to muster the energy to create after a day or week of promoting. So, each Friday I share a theme and the following Thursday, talented, professionals share their interpretation of that theme. It’s amazing how many different ways there are to look at one idea.
The Thursday Sweet Treat will be hosted here starting today as I would like my writing and art worlds to merge. Please sit back, grab your mouse and begin to surf the beauty of a Blue Sky as seen by these incredible people.
Meet Our Artist of the Week – Blue Eyed Shell
Michelle Cooke, the exceptional creator of BlueEyedShell, is the first Artist of the Week. Michelle created a beautiful Electric Daisy Headband in Aqua Blue.
“I was inspired by the bold aqua blues beaming off the lagoons on warm day along the Central Coast of California,” said Michelle. “I live here and am inspired everyday by the beauty California offers.”
“I created this piece for a friend with dashing blue eyes. She wanted to keep her ears toasty warm on her cold commutes to work. Be warm and cute, she said. I’ve got the perfect idea. Chunky, aqua blue yarn to show off her eyes and a delicate yellow flower with a jewel to display her fun personality. It’s perfect! I want people to have excitement in their daily activities by wearing bold colors that describe their mood and positive outlook on life. Keeping warm while looking ravishingly cute is a daunting task but easily done with a personality piece like the Electric Daisy.”

Mel, the talented artist, writer and creator of Weaving the Moon, created this gorgeous Untitled mixed-media piece.
“This is a mixed-media piece from my not-an-art-journal….I wrote a poem a while back called “the lost girls” and am working my way through what that means to me,” said Mel. “I consider myself a lost girl…always have….an underlying feeling of living on the fringes and not quite belonging to this time and space. A series of these girls seem to be emerging and I’m just rollin’ with it.”

“Woooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, TST is back!!!!!!” sang Maureen. “Annie Mae got to dancing this song, in watercolor on 6 X 12 paper.”
Will you all please join me in wishing Maureen a VERY Happy Belated Birthday!!! It was yesterday. May the year ahead be filled with nothing but happiness, laughter and loads of love, Maureen!

Trina, the fantastic artist and creator of Woven Chains Jewelry, created this striking pendant titled, “The Stars come out at Twighlight”.
“When I saw that the theme was “sky blue”, I knew I wanted to capture the sky at my favorite time of night — when the stars are just coming out and the sky is a beautiful, rich, deep dark blue,” said Trina. “I just happened to have some beautiful carved lapis beads that fit that color just perfectly, and I threw in some blue niobium rings for more sky, and added silver for the stars. The pendant ended up being much longer than most that I make, but I really like this one.”
Amanda, the terrific artist and creator of Persistent Green, created this Untitled work in progress 8×10 mixed media on canvas board.
“This week’s theme is very uplifting for me,” said Amanda. “I’m so ready for spring, warm weather and sun on my face–all of which I tried to embrace and express in my piece.”

My creation is an art journal spread. Blue skies always make me dream. I like to let my thoughts wander across my mind like clouds. So in this piece, I filled myself with all the things I am or desire to be and made an announcement to the Universe. I only want to create because that’s what’s within me – a deep desire to create.

Now, although the TST is normally a visual experience, I included this piece of writing because it painted such vivid images in my mind. Enjoy!
Lisa Dieken, the creative artist, writer and founder of Wild Creative Heart, wrote this piece which includes blue sky.
“Since almost the beginning of this year, and after “Invoking the Wizard” in my life, I’ve had a weekly feature on my blog called “Wizard Wednesday”. It’s to help me remember to appreciate and acknowledge the magic in the simple things and the extraordinary things that occur in my life.,” said Lisa. “And sometimes the lines between the two begin to blur! It’s a lot like a gratitude list with a new angle that really appeals to my inner child. (Please join in on Wizard Wednesday each week if you are inspired! I love to hear about the magic others are experiencing!)
I wrote this informal piece for Wizard Wednesday this week and was excited that it fit with Natasha’s theme of ‘Sky Blue’!”
I’m writing this late afternoon on Tuesday after returning from a short hike. It has been cloudy and chilly the past couple of days. Monday morning we woke up to a glaze of ice over everything.
When I arrived at the trailhead I found myself in delightful awe. As I hiked, I was speechless and perhaps breathless from the beauty. I often stopped and took in the scene and I wonder if my jaw dropped open every time I stopped, and even when I didn’t! I wanted to take it all in, down to the smallest details. I wanted to make sure I remembered this.
What was so delightful? Moisture in the air is rare here in arid Colorado so it was a surprise to find the rolling hillsides of yellow-old grasses covered in a thick frost. And the few green pine trees and leafless rabbit brush shrubs had a coating of white frost as well. The frost was thickly built up, mostly just on one side of the branches of the shrubs, and took the shape of all of the tiny little shoots going off in all directions. The tops of the grasses and the needles on the trees were like this as well. Some places the frost was built up thicker than others.
As I hiked through the hills and the trees, the colors amazed me: White, yellow-gold, green, the blue sky as it cleared. On this day, the colors seemed more vibrant and vivid than ever. I appreciated the clouds breaking up after a few dark days, but it felt especially magical in this landscape. The usual scene had been transformed into magnificence. As if it wasn’t magnificent enough.
There was only a faint outline of the distant hills and mountains because of the moisture still hanging in the air. The farthest mountains were still shrouded in the clouds and haze. Bright sky blue was growing larger and larger as the clouds dissipated and the landscape and atmosphere brightened.
And silence. It’s always amazing to me to be out when there are no breezes blowing because it can be so s.i.l.e.n.t. Shhhh….. except for a few chickadees twittering, the sound of the air being forced by the wings of the flying crow overhead, the gentle falling of the frost off of the trees to the ground, the cry of the crow now and then, and once, the coyotes howling and yelping in the distance.. except for this delicious nature music, the silence.
It was an uncommon hike that gave me the gift of making it easy to stop my thoughts, open my heart and rest in the present moment.
Not sure I could’ve asked for a more magical experience.
Thank you, Wizard.

I am so deeply inspired by the images, art, and beauty displayed by each artist that I’m going to unveil the next theme right now!
The theme which will be unveiled next week is:
Red Giants

Let’s explore the color red in your work. If you feel so inclined, explore red and giants. It’s completely up to you. All I ask is that you have fun! I will post a larger post with guidelines here tomorrow.
Now, let’s share a little love for all the folks here. Leave a comment and tell me – would you like to see a TST for writing as well as the one we create for art? I look forward to hearing from you!
