Things That Make the Earth Happy

I was exceptionally moved by the candor and heart in each response to Wednesday’s posting. Thank you! Rowena who writes the imaginative and inspiring blog “Warrior Girl, You’re a Warrior Mama Now” that I enjoy reading said something that struck a cord with me. She said, “People are more important than things or money. This is a delicate, interlocking web, and when you destroy one thing (the environment, a person) the others start to crumple. “I agree completely and mention of the environment made me think.
Recently, my friend Patricia gave me an incredible gift. She gave me the Brelli. Have you heard of it? It’s this awesome umbrella designed by Pam Zonsius, CEO of Pam & Co. and it is 100% biodegradable. I cannot tell you how much I love it. It’s kind to the Earth and I’m into leaving this place in good condition for the coming generations.
I used to be a water waster; I admit it. I’d let the shower run for too long before I got in or I’d let the water run while brushing my teeth but I’m making a huge effort to change those behaviors. I even got the bag, the canvas one, to take with me to the store so I don’t have to use plastic. It’s not always easy to remember to do all the things I want to in order to be environmentally friendly but I try and hope that in some small way I’m helping the planet and those who inhabit it. In fact, I’m working extra hard because I want my daughter to learn good habits right from the start.
This is just one of many areas in which we need to pull together in order to make changes. We cannot have some working to save the environment while others kick back without a care in the world and continue to destroy it. The changes that are taking place in our weather systems, in our oceans and beneath the surface of the Earth are real. I believe they are caused by a mixture of factors from the inevitable evolution of life which brings about change to all of us and our lack of knowledge or awareness for what we are doing to the home we are very lucky to have.
What are your greatest environmental concerns? What small acts of kindness do you do to help the Earth?
